Scott Swan

Scott Swan, P.E.

Principal since since October 2014

Scott was raised in middle America in a small town outside of Wichita, Kansas.  He grew up on a small ranch and learned from an early age what was involved in a hard day’s labor through tending to animals or hauling hay.  As a kid, he took an early interest in anything sports related, eventually turning that passion into a short stint in college baseball at Butler County Community College.  It was there where his passion for Engineering grew its wings.  Scott graduated, ultimately, from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering in the Fall of 1998.  During his final summer at Kansas State, he took an internship with Blum Consulting Engineers.  It was during this time that he fell in love with the work that Blum was creating.  That first summer, he assisted with design efforts on the Westin Kierland Resort located in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Since that time, he has worked on countless Hotel, Multi-Family, Office, Retail, Data Center, Religious Worship and Tenant Finish projects.  As a Principal, he has a personal commitment to continuing Blum’s long-standing history of quality that balances both innovative design and project budget constraints.

In his personal life, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife and two young boys.  On weekends the days are filled with youth sports coaching and an occasional round of golf as time allows.  Being a good and present father is as important to him as just about any aspect of his life and he takes great pride in that responsibility.

Professional Quotes/Mantra:

If the only defense of your design is that ‘it meets code’, you might as well say that if it were any worse it would be illegal.”

Anyone can over-design a building, but it’s the creative that can get it ‘just right’ and provide a first cost value along with building system performance.
